"In myomas, genetic susceptibility is an important risk factor"

How does myoma occur?

Uterine fibroids (myomas) are formed as a result of abnormal proliferation of cells belonging to the muscle tissue of the uterus called myometrium. These lumps are found in about one-third of women of childbearing age.

As with other benign and malignant tumors in our body, the true cause of fibroids is not known exactly. However, genetic and hormonal factors are thought to play an important role.
